Veneers, Inlay & Onlay

Modern cosmetic dentistry includes the revolutionary invention of veneers. Veneers are thin-cased covering made up of ceramic, porcelain or composite resins that invest an existed damaged or discoloured tooth to improve its appearance and protect it from further damage.

Veneers are highly flexible and can help improve the appearance of your smile by degrees. They are multi-purpose and can be used to enhance the shape of your front teeth, correct discoloured teeth that are resistant to whitening and improve the positioning of malformed teeth.

Why Should You Get Veneers?

Here are some reasons when we’d recommend getting veneers:

  1. If you have discoloured teeth because of root canal treatment or long-term effects of diet/smoking
  2. If you have worn-out teeth
  3. If your teeth or part of a tooth has been broken or chipped off
  4. If you have malformed or irregularly shaped teeth
  5. If there are gaps between your teeth

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Similar to other cosmetic dentistry treatment options, inlays and onlays are excellent choices to restore the look of damaged or decayed teeth with the advantage being more durable and sturdy than most other options such as implants and crowns.

They are also less likely to get discoloured over the years, so they are cost-effective in the long-run.

Inlays or Onlays – What’s Best for You?

After a careful assessment of your teeth, our orthodontists at Vivid Dental Surgeons will decide which of the two treatments will suit you best. The decision depends largely on the exact degree and area of damage to your teeth.

Inlays are generally smaller and cover only the grooves between the cusps of your teeth. They are recommended when the damage is minimal.

Onlays are larger and cover not only the grooves but also the adjacent tooth surfaces. Onlays are used when the amount of tooth decay is large and requires greater restoration.

For both inlays and onlays, the ideal candidate is one with extensive damage to the structure of the tooth that is irreparable through simple filling or crowning.

Benefits of Inlays and Onlays

  •  Inlays and Onlays protect the teeth so that most of the natural surface can be preserved.
  • They are stronger and more durable than other options
  • They are pre-formed in labs and custom-fit for each patient. This makes them fit perfectly in tight spaces and fill in the gaps.
  • Resistant to discolouration over time
  • Easier to use and maintain and provide optimum teeth hygiene
